About the event

For this Eve Summer Walk, experienced walk leader and Gold Brecon Beacons National Park Ambassador Julie Bell will guide us on a fascinating circular walk exploring the historic hill above the town of Brecon.

Starting at the beautiful Brecon Cathedral, we’ll set out on a roughly 4-mile circular walk, gradually climbing towards Pen-y-Crug, one of the most impressive Iron Age hillfort sites in the area.

The climb is steady but unhurried, taken at the usual relaxed Eve Walk pace, and as we gain height the views begin to open up across the town of Brecon and the surrounding countryside.

At the summit we reach the remains of the Iron Age hillfort, first established around 800 BC. Today the defensive ramparts survive as rounded earthwork banks and ditches, but in their time they would have been formidable structures of stone, earth and timber palisades protecting a busy hilltop settlement.
