About the event

This Eve Summer Walk begins in the small market town of Talgarth, nestled beneath the dramatic slopes of the Black Mountains in the Brecon Beacons National Park (Bannau Brycheiniog). Talgarth is well known as a haven for red kites, and it’s not uncommon for the sky above the town to be filled with these impressive birds of prey as they circle overhead — a memorable way to start any walk.


From the town we gradually make our way uphill on quiet lanes before reaching the Wildlife Trust nature reserve at Pwll y Wrach. Here we enter a beautiful area of ancient woodland set within a sheltered dingle — the Welsh name for a small, wooded valley, often with a stream running through it. Footpaths lead us beneath a stunning canopy of trees, creating a peaceful, almost enchanted atmosphere, especially in the soft evening light.
