From Walk Hay to Sarah Price Hiking: A New Chapter Begins

Last weekend marked something very special.

After four years of building my guided walking business step by step, I gathered together the people who have been part of the journey to celebrate a new chapter; the relaunch under a new name: Sarah Price Hiking.

Fifty-five people came along to Llangasty Village Hall overlooking the beautiful Llangorse Lake, right in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Walkers, collaborators, tourism representatives, friends — all in one room.

It was incredibly special.

Beginning as We Always Do — By Walking!

It felt right that the celebration started outdoors.

Some of us set off together on a 3-mile circular walk, climbing steadily along an ancient Roman road, now a public footpath towards the summit of a 340-metre hill crowned by an Iron Age hill fort.

From the top, the views stretched across the Beacons, towards the Black Mountains and far beyond. There’s something powerful about standing on historic ground, surrounded by people who have supported your journey, looking out over the landscapes that have shaped your work.

Julie Bell from Brecon Beacons Tourism kindly acted as back-marker and official photographer for the walk, capturing moments of connection, laughter and those expansive hilltop

views.

My thanks also goes to Kari & Tara who came representing Visit Herefordshire. They both have championed my services over the years.

Gathering Back Together

After the walk, we returned to the village hall where a log burner kept the space warm and welcoming.

Some wonderfully generous walkers had prepared a fantastic buffet lunch and hot drinks, creating a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere. It felt informal, heartfelt and very much in keeping with the spirit of the community that has grown around these walks. Special thanks to Pam Bretherton, Marian & Cathy xxx

Following lunch, I shared the newly designed Sarah Price Hiking website on a big screen and reflected on the past four years; the early days, the lessons learned, the collaborations formed, and the growth that has happened gradually and organically.

A huge thank you went to Emanation, who has been instrumental in shaping the new website. From its design and structure to how it flows and functions, she has been an absolute gem, guiding me patiently through the process and bringing genuine passion for supporting local women’s businesses.

Collaboration at the Heart

It meant a great deal to have so many collaborators present.

Stuart from the Brecon Mountain Railway

joined us, a partnership that is opening

up exciting opportunities through self-guided routes and tourism collaboration.

Emily Mason, (Outdoor Swim Coach), with whom I co-lead the popular Wild Walk & Dip experiences, was also there, representing the growing side of my work that blends walking, cold water immersion and connection.

Joe Emmett also came along. Joe is an author, musician, and among other things, my son's history teacher. Joe & I will teaming up for the Hay on Wye Literature Festival this spring, walking together in beautiful Herefordshire when Joe will be reading from his new book, 'New Roots, ancient lands',

and sharing his passion for our local history.

I have read his book, and love it!

Over the past year in particular, my work has expanded significantly. Around 50% of Sarah Price Hiking now involves working with organisations, charities and tourism businesses, creating tailored walking experiences and developing routes that help people connect more deeply with this landscape & each other.

A Wider Landscape

While Hay-on-Wye will always be part of my story, this relaunch reflects something broader.

Sarah Price Hiking now operates across a wide area of Herefordshire and in the the Brecon Beacons National Park, (Bannau Brycheiniog) , offering guided walks, collaborative projects, women’s events, and wellbeing-focused experiences.

There is a stronger emphasis than ever on:

  • Women’s walking events

  • Walking for improved mental health as well as physical health

  • Creating welcoming, mindful spaces

  • Building meaningful partnerships

"Walking has always been about more than distance. It’s about how we feel while we’re moving through the landscape, and how that movement helps us process, connect and restore"

Marking Four Years — And Looking Ahead

There was even new Sarah Price Hiking merchandise available on the day ; beanies and T-shirts, a small but symbolic sign of how far things have come.

But more than anything, the relaunch was about pausing to acknowledge the journey.

What began as a personal passion has grown into a sustainable business rooted in collaboration, community and wellbeing.

Four years in, and this feels less like a reinvention and more like a natural evolution.

  • The map has widened.

  • The partnerships have deepened.

  • The purpose feels clearer than ever.

"To everyone who has walked, supported, collaborated, encouraged, photographed, cooked, designed or simply believed in what I am building — thank you"

This is a new chapter.

And I’m excited to see where the path leads next.
